Twenty-two, including the Speaker, out of the 24 former members of the Peoples Democractic Party (PDP) in the Kwara State House of Assembly Wednesday defected from the PDP to All Progressive Congress(APC) at the floor of the House.
But Hon. Ilyas Ibrahim who is currently on suspension for three months representing Malete/ Ipaye/ Oloru state constituency and Hon. Fatai Salman representing Ilorin North state constituency have vowed to remain in the PDP henceforth until further notice.
It will be recalled that THISDAY had exclusively reported two weeks ago in its Saturday tabloid that the twenty-three lawmakers in the State House of Assembly would soon dump PDP for APC as soon as they resumed after their Christmas and new year recess.
Before the defection of the affected lawmakers on Wednesday at the floor of the house, the speaker of the house, Hon. Razak Atunwa had read a letter dated 10th January, 2014 wrote by the affected lawmakers to the speaker that, based on the division and factionalisation in the PDP and also under section 109 sub section (1)( g), they decided to leave the PDP and join APC with immediate effect.
However, in his comment at the floor of the house after his defection, Hon. Muhammed Yisa Gana who is also the deputy speaker told the members of the house that, he decided to dump the PDP for APC in view of the division within the PDP.
Gana who represents Patigi state constituency in the house said that, he had contacted all stakeholders in his constituency and they had approved his defection into APC with immediate effect.
