Spice TV, HipTV launch same day on DSTV

Two entertainment channels were launched on November 5 on cable TV,
DSTV. Entertainment channel, Hip TV –channel 324, finally made its
debut, while Spice TV- channel 192, a sister station to SoundCity,
also went live.
While HipTv parades itself as a break from the norm with its contents
like Live It up, Star Struck, Next Rated, and exclusive interviews,
Spice TV is described as a fashion and beauty channel dedicated to
exploring African fashion and culture on the continent, showcasing the
latest trends, major fashion shows, designer events and highlights of
fashion industry professionals with contents like Spice Runway, Diary
of a Muse, Spice Focus and Fashion 360.
MultiChoice Africa's CEO, Nico Meyer, expressed confidence that the
launch of the two stations is a welcome development. He stated that it
will provide of DSTV with an increased number of entertainment
channels.
"We are pleased to be launching two new home grown channels – Spice TV
and Hip TV on DSTV and we are certain that the launch of these two
channels will provide subscribers with a greater variety of
entertainment made in Africa, for Africa," he said.
In an earlier interview with PREMIUM TIMES, Ayo Animashaun, CEO of
HipTv, gave an insight to what to expect from his new adventure while
also pointing out that the cable station will be viewed across major
African countries.
"We are doing our own thing. We say we are a break from the norm, so
we are setting our own standards. People have done things before us
that we are proud of, but we are doing our thing our way and I would
like us to keep it at that," he said.
"We are already in Ghana, U.K., Gabon, U.S., Kenya, Burundi, Angola,
Tanzania and so many parts of the Africa continent. So the beauty of
it is that when a citizen of Gabon is going good music and gets on our
platform, he will be assured that the whole of Africa gets to consume
his music".
